Environmental Management
Environmental management can be a nebulous term applied to many circumstances, projects, fields, and industries... and the term is often misleading, implying that we manage the environment for the project, when in reality, the key is to manage a project and its impacts to protect the environment. Further, the application and implementation of municipal, provincial, territorial, and or federal Acts and Regulations is a critical component of environmental management.
As a service, Alexandra works with clients to ensure projects adhere to the relevant legislation, land use plans, traditional land use strategies, and serves to protect environmental and cultural sensitivities. This can take the form of working directly with the prime contractor in developing management plans with effective and cost-efficient strategies; or, working with affected stakeholders serving as a technical advisor in reviewing and consulting on submitted assessments and management plans.
As a Registered Professional Biologist, Alexandra is bound and required to ensure strategies and plans apply and uphold environmental stewardship principles, are science-based, and when serving as an advisor, Alexandra ensures that the scientific method is implemented.
Completing environmental assessments and environmental management projects to territorial, provincial, or federal standards requires the close integration of indigenous science, because this knowledge must be understood to form a part of a larger body of knowledge which encompasses knowledge about cultural, environmental, economic, political and spiritual inter-relationships. Alexandra integrates traditional ecological knowledge research and the 10 Calls to Action to Natural Scientists Working in Canada into all of her projects.
